About

With a strong presence in-store and online, Tiendas Ekono has been a market leader in Costa Rica for 25+ years, covering categories such as fashion, footwear and home.

The brand treats shopping as a single, seamless journey across channels: what happens on the website complements the in-store experience and vice versa.

To make that happen, Ekono integrates automation, segmentation and Web Push across the journey, delivering timely, relevant messages, from the first visit through to basket recovery, always consent-first and third-party-cookie-free.

The result is an ongoing relationship that boosts acquisition, retention and sales.

Challenge

Although Ekono has a solid brand both in store and online, it needed to connect the two channels more tightly, make better use of existing traffic and recover sales that were stalling.

The goal wasn’t only to sell more online, but to turn the website into an effective lead-generation channel for the whole funnel.

The solution also had to work without third-party cookies, capture first-party, GDPR-compliant consent and automate relevant messages by moment and behaviour (category browsed, product viewed, basket abandoned), all with minimal technical overhead and a brand-consistent experience.

Solution

Personalised Campaign Setup

Campaigns are designed, so every message fits the user’s journey stage and behaviour.

We apply smart segmentation (funnel stage, category, price sensitivity), dynamic templates (product image & name, original/offer price, product or custom URL, brand logo), and frequency/exclusion controls (e.g., exclude recent converters).

Content runs multilingual and cookie-free to keep relevance high at all times.

Native opt-in

We enabled browser permission on desktop and mobile to build a first-party, GDPR-compliant database — no personal data requested, no third-party cookies. It also supports subscriber migration from any previous provider and creates a clean base for automation and bulk sends.

Results:

4,000+ subscribers in one month.

Bulk and Triggered Web Push Notifications

At Frizbit, we’ve implemented a two-layer Web Push programme for Tiendas Ekono that is consent-first and third-party-cookie-free.

Two complementary layers work together:

  • Triggered (behaviour-driven) — real-time messages that follow what each user does: Welcome, Category retargeting, Product retargeting and Basket recovery (copy adapts for impulse vs considered purchases).
Post-purchase was not activated in this project, by design.

Results: 5.91% CTR and 20,000+ user-event notifications delivered.

  • Bulk — messages to the whole base during promotions, launches and high-traffic days to extend reach, run A/B tests and re-engage cold segments. They reinforce online sales and store visits.

    Results:
100,000+ notifications delivered in April 2025.
